High-strength lean duplex steel with excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking
Grade S32202 (UNS S32202) is a lean duplex stainless steel, designated as Duplex 2202, featuring a low-nickel (2%) and low-molybdenum composition with 22% chromium and nitrogen additions to provide a high-strength, cost-effective alternative to standard austenitic grades. This lean duplex alloy delivers approximately double the yield strength of 304L and 316L with significantly superior resistance to chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking (SCC), making it ideal for storage tanks, pressure vessels, structural components, and water treatment equipment. S32202 is widely utilized in the pulp and paper industry, chemical processing, and civil engineering where mechanical durability and long-term corrosion resistance are required at stable pricing. Duplex 2202 (S32202) is a stainless steel grade covered under ASTM A1082/A1082M for high-strength bolting in special-purpose applications such as pressure vessels. UNS designation S32202.
